The trip can take 3 to 4 hours including the travel time. Golden Temple is just 7 km and the Harangi Dam is just 8.5 km away from the Cauvery Nisargadhama and they all can be visited together.
Cauvery Nisargadhama is actually an island formed by the River Cauvery. River Cauvery is in Kodagu district of Karnataka and that spot is one of the famous picnic spots in Coorg. It became a tourist spot since 1988. The area of the island, developed by the forest department, covered 64 acres and with sandalwood and teak trees all around it. The OMKARESHWARA temple is a magnificent old temple of high cultural values and believes that make it one of the top pilgrimages in the world. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and thousands of devotees come here to pray and get better.
The temple was built by the king Lingarajendra in 1820 CE. He built it on the advice of few men when he was mentally stressed with nightmares of his ill deeds in future. - MADIKERI FORT
Madikeri Fort is a famous historical fort and a tourist attraction point in Madikeri town. The fort stands still in the heart of Madikeri and reflects its ancient shine and importance. It was built by Mudduraja, the then king of Coorg in 17th century AD. It was made up mud and was rebuilt with stones by Tipu Sultan. It has beautiful architectural designs over the stones.
It is at a distance of 1 km from the Madikeri bus stop. You can take autos or cabs to the place. The timings are 10 am to 5.30 pm. There is no entry fee here.
- RAJA’S TOMB
There are three Raja’s Tombs built over the beautiful hill station, Madikeri. It is a good tourist attraction as it contains the ancient remains of Kodavas. The tombs are at centre and have the turrets all around. There are Nandi figures carved over the walls and thus, talks about the architecture of Gaddige Madikeri.
